John Steuart Curry: Scenes from an American Life

Springfield Art Museum

September 18 - November 15, 2010 (Spratlen and Armstrong Galleries)

Along with fellow Midwest artists Grant Wood and Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry emerged in the 1930s as one of the leading artists of the Regionalist movement. Grounding his work on the representation of epic scenes of everyday life, Curry’s work reflects a purely American experience. This exhibit will showcase a number of works on loan from the artist’s estate, represented by Kiechel Fine Art, Lincoln, Nebraska, including works from Curry’s time spent with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
